This is a fully online, self-paced course focused on J.R.R. Tolkien’s, The Lord of the Rings. Students will explore the trilogy through independent reading and choose which parts or companion texts to focus on, allowing for a personalized experience. Through a variety of open-ended assignments and projects, students will practice critical reading, comprehension, and metacognition, reflecting on their thinking as they engage with Tolkien’s complex world. Assignments may include written analyses, creative projects, and discussion responses, all designed to deepen understanding of themes, characters, and literary techniques. This course encourages independent, thoughtful reading while fostering a lasting appreciation for one of literature’s most epic stories (Semester 1 of 1).
This version of the course is designed for independent learning and is not teacher supported or graded. Parents have the ability to grade assignments, view answer keys, and provide feedback to their child.
We also offer this course as an Accredited Course that includes an official transcript and earned credit, or as an Accredited Course with Mentor Teacher, which adds a dedicated teacher who provides grading, feedback, and ongoing support to guide your student’s success.
