1st Grade Reading - Semesters 1 & 2

This is a fully online, self-paced First Grade Reading course. Students develop listening and oral language skills, writing skills, and the foundational skills needed to become effective readers. Areas addressed include phonemic awareness, decoding, structural analysis, vocabulary development, reading and literature skills, study skills, pre-writing and composition skills, spelling, and handwriting.

The goals of the reading program are to instill a love of reading in all students by introducing engaging texts and authors. Students explore different purposes for reading through a variety of subgenres, worksheets, hands-on projects, and art activities. State standards are adhered to in this course and are noted in the unit overviews.

This version of the course is designed for independent learning and is not teacher supported or graded. Parents have the ability to grade assignments, view answer keys, and provide feedback to their child. This course covers the full year, including Semester 1 and Semester 2.

We also offer this course as an Accredited Course, which includes an official transcript and earned credit, or as an Accredited Course with Mentor Teacher, which adds a dedicated teacher who provides grading, feedback, and ongoing support to guide your student’s success.
